We collect personal information about our members, people who visit our website or attend our events.

Who are we?
J-Net is the Japanese language specialist network of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting
The Institute of Translation and Interpreting (“ITI”) is the only UK-based independent professional membership association for practising translators, interpreters and language services businesses. Founded in 1986 and with over 3,000 members, both in the UK and internationally, it is a significant resource within the industry.
What type of information is collected from you?
The personal information we may collect includes:
- your name

The right of access (Right to request the data we hold)
The General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) grants you the right to a copy of any data concerning you that has been processed by us. This is referred to as a Subject Access Request. We will respond promptly and certainly within the one month time frame laid down by the GDPR from the point of receiving the request and all the necessary information from you. The first request will be dealt with free of charge to yourself.
The right to rectification
Individuals are entitled to have personal data rectified if it is inaccurate or incomplete. We will respond to requests for rectification within one month of receipt of the request.
The accuracy of your information is important to us. We’re working on ways to make it easier for you to review and correct the information that we hold about you. In the meantime, if you change email address, or any of the other information we hold is inaccurate or out of date, please contact us.
The right to erasure (also known as the right to be forgotten)
You have a right to have your personal data erased and to prevent processing in specific circumstances:
- Where the personal data is no longer necessary in relation to the purpose for which it was originally collected/processed.
- Should you withdraw your consent to processing.
- Should you object to the processing and there is no overriding legitimate interest for us continuing the processing.
- Your personal data was unlawfully processed (i.e. otherwise in breach of the GDPR).
- Your personal data has to be erased in order to comply with a legal obligation.
The right to restrict (i.e. prevent) further processing of your data
You have the right to ‘block’ or suppress processing of your personal data. We will retain just enough information to ensure that the restriction is respected in the future.
The right to data portability
This right allows you to move, copy or transfer personal data easily from one IT environment to another in a safe and secure way, without hindrance to usability.
The right to data portability only applies:
- to personal data an individual has provided to a controller;
- where the processing is based on the individual’s consent or for the performance of a contract; and
- when processing is carried out by automated means.
The right to object
Individuals have the right to object to:
- processing based on legitimate interests or the performance of a task in the public interest/exercise of official authority (including profiling);
- direct marketing (including profiling); and
- processing for purposes of scientific/historical research and statistics
Rights related to automated decision making including profiling
We do not use automated decision making or profiling.
